According to one of the sites on Wilders they think that K-Meleon will soon be dead.
Where I found it on Wilders:  software,hardware & general services/other software & services/
k-meleon browser. I am just quoting what I read there.

So if I have to look for another browser I'm thinking Sea Monkey might be the
one to go for. Just the browser and not the suite, if it can be had.
I got rid of Firefox long ago because it was to much of a hassle to backup the favorites.
Opinions???

Backing up favorites as in bookmarks?

Bookmarks menu -> Show All Bookmarks
Import and Backup -> Export Bookmarks to HTML..., [Save]

Restoring is the same but with "Import Bookmarks from HTML..."

I use K-meleon also, dropped firefox because it was a major memory hog after a while. I hated switching because of the same reason, all my saved links. There are programs(stand alone) out there to convert your links to other browsers, but the less used browers usually are not included. K-melon saves the links in an HTML file if I remember right. Still a pain to switch.

Transmute Portable :

QuoteTransmute is a bookmark converter that can import and export bookmarks, or favorites, between the latest bookmark formats such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera, Apple Safari, Chromium, Flock, Konqueror and XBEL.

Thanks guys for replying.
Anunitu:  bkm hasn't been updated since 2007. Makes you wonder.
I-E bookmarks seem to be at a stand still. Again 2007.
K-meleon bookmarks assistant no longer exists.

Vortex:  Don't think Transmute handles K-Meleon (could be wrong)

Tedd:  Bookmarks in one browser and favorites in another.
When I had FF I found backing up Favorites/Bookmarks to be a royal pain.
That's the main reason I got rid of it. There were others reasons.

It looks like the world is changing again in that many of the sites that worked with K-Meleon no longer work properly yet they all run correctly on Google Chrome. Long ago Netscape was the standard until Microsoft started paying web developers to support their formats at the expense of Netscape. The Firefox, Gecko engined range of browsers appear to be being squeezed out by a change in format that suits Google Chrome. I don't know about the Microsoft browser as I have no intention of using it but I don't see any problems in running both as K-Meleon has a number of useful capacities that others don't have and if a page does not display properly I just load it in Chrome.

Are you using V 1.5.4 or one of the betas Hutch?

I have tried Iron as a browser. It's not K-Meleon but it has less of the nonsense that
Google Chrome seems to like. Comodo Dragon seemed cumbersome to use.
Not as nice as Iron. IMHO

Jack,

I am using 1.5.4 but its starting to lose it as the web page specification appear to be changing. Everything used to work fine but over time different pages that I regularly browse have started to be displayed incorrectly or not at al and with those I use Google Chrome. Chrome works OK and its fast but its a bit toothless with some things you want to do and I don't like its bookmark layout.

Hi Hutch,

Portableapps.com is providing the portable versions of Google Chrome :

Google Chrome Portable 15.0.874.106 Stable

Google Chrome Portable 16.0.912.21 Beta

shankle

I started to get annoying popups on K-Meleon.
So I switched to "IRON". So far I like it very much. It imported all my K-Meleon bookmarks just fine.
Bookmark manipulation is very good IMHO.
Speed of operation seems to be very good. Wonder how long it will be before it gets crapped up?
Haven't found out yet how to backup the bookmarks.

Hi shankle,

You can copy the file IronPortable\Data\IronPortableData\Default\Bookmarks to another folder. ( Tested on Iron Portable )

Thanks Vortex,
I didn't use the portable data download so maybe that's why I can't find the bookmarks to backup.
I have a message in their forum and am waiting for an answer.
Still like what I am seeing :bg

Have found the bookmarks and backed them up.
Am very pleased so far with the Iron Browser.
Guess K-Meleon is history....

Hi Vortex,
Thanks for replying.
I am still using IRON. Although not K-Meleon it is still very nice IMHO.
Backing up bookmarks was a breeze.
Not an expert on Iron yet - still learning.
