Title: Avira
Post by: Twister on August 21, 2010, 01:45:48 AM
It is impossible to install MASM32 with Avira Guard running. It blocks the extraction by prompting that "C:\masm32\finst.exe" contains TR/Gendal.3938680. It also says before that it is "A virus or unwanted program".

Why are these AV companies terrorizing to us like this!? :boohoo:

Here is a work-around before attempting to install MASM32:
Right-click the Avira system tray icon and click "Configure AntiVir"

Make sure to tick 'Expert Mode'.

Click 'Guard', then click 'Scan', then click 'Exceptions'

Add 'C:\masm32\' path to the File objects to be omitted.

Click 'Ok' at the bottom.

Hi GTX,

It's one of those false positive messages. You have to ignore them. The false positive problem was discussed here in the forum.

I like Avira. Just got a mail saying

Michael Jackson is alive! We have found evidence which shows that the King of music is not dead

So, being a curious person, I clicked on the link, and saved http://79.188.234.58/MichaelJackson.exe to C:\WINDOWS\system32 - a 900k file.

Guess what? Avira did not disturb me with any unwanted beeps or blurps or boxes, it just kept quiet :green2
